Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan School

The structure was built as an extension to the existing Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan building.   Due to the increase demand in functions and academic activities, this existing building had begun to lack in space requirements, to compensate which, the extension was proposed.  The new building housed the Elementary, the Primary and the High School blocks. The three separate buildings were designed around open courts which connected the inner, enclosed classroom spaces with the open space.  The architecture was inspired from the traditional use of bricks as the predominant building material.  Elements of vernacular Indian architecture were abstracted and used. The addition reoriented the schools around the courtyards. Classrooms facing the courtyard benefit from diffuse light, and students enjoy easy access to the outdoors for recreation.
