SPA, New Delhi Campus

The master plan for the proposed School of Planning and Architecture (“SPA”) consists of undergraduate, post-graduate and common facilities within an area of 27,500 sq. m. and student hostels of 16,300 sq. m. on a site of 20-Acres. This is a unique site configuration with 20 -30 feet deep ravine with undulating landscape surrounding it. The built form of the new campus represents an accentuation of the natural ridge formations, adapting into the built form of the New-Delhi’s Green Ridge.

Represented in the site diagram below;

  1. The Green Ridge: The built form of the new campus represents an accentuation of the natural ridge formations, transforming into the built form of the Green Ridge, while preserving and enhancing the valley landscapes.

  2. Landscape Arboretum: landscape arboretum will become an ecological outdoor museum and laboratory of the native and adapted flora and fauna of the Delhi Ridge and serve as a model of ecological restoration and biodiversity research demonstration projects.

  3. The Academic Circle: The proposed Academic Circle, threading through all academic facilities symbolizes the holistic, interdisciplinary and interactive mission of SPA. The extension of the circle through the landscape reflects the unity of nature and culture.

  4. Campus Ensemble: The common facilities are anchored to the south end of the canyon with the academic wings spreading out to embrace the canyon. The woodland mediates between residential buildings and the academic buildings.

The project’s urban design reflects creative spaces and urban massing which is the result of development ideas that effectively address the SPA’s vision, program requirements and unique demands of the site.
